Organic solvents are mainly used to dissolve some water-insoluble substances (such as grease, wax, resin, rubber, dye, etc.) and a variety of organic dirt. It is characterized by liquid under normal temperature and pressure, good fluidity, and viscosity. Smaller, with greater volatility, less residue on the surface of the substance after cleaning, and the properties of the solute and solvent have not changed during the dissolution process.

Since organic solvents are easy to volatilize into the environment, they not only pollute the air, but also have fat solubility, which is easy to cause toxic effects on the human body. Therefore, in recent years, we have continuously explored and developed organic solvent cleaning agents with lower toxicity and weaker volatility. Direction.
At present, the most controversial organic solvent cleaning agent is ODS cleaning agent. ODS refers to substances that destroy the atmospheric ozone layer or deplete the ozone layer, mainly referring to trichlorotrifluoroethane (CFC-113), carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), perfluorochlorofluorocarbons (CFC), 1,1, 1-trichloroethane (CH3CCl3), perbrominated alkanes and brominated fluorocarbons used as cleaning agents. Although these substances have good cleaning effect and economic benefits, they can destroy the ozone layer, cause the ozone layer hole, and seriously endanger the safety of the earth.
In order to avoid further damage to the ozone layer, the use of ODS-based organic solvent cleaning agents has been banned, and a series of organic solvent cleaning agents that can replace ODS have been gradually developed.
HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon) cleaning agent is used as a transitional ODS cleaning agent alternative. At the end of the 20th century, a series of cleaning agents such as HCFC HCFC-141b(CH3Cl2CF and so on were recommended as substitutes for trichloroethane and CFC cleaning agents.
Through experimental research and comparison, the physical and chemical properties of HCFC and CFC-113 are relatively close, and there is no need to make major changes to the original cleaning equipment when replacing, and the replacement cost can be reduced to a certain extent, which is not always beneficial to the replacement of some small and medium-sized enterprises, and can avoid excessive consumption of funds brought about by technological reform. Although these cleaning agents also contain chlorine, the release of chlorine causes much less damage to the ozone layer than CFCs. However, despite this, HCFC cleaning agents will also be completely banned in 2020 and can only temporarily replace ODS cleaning agents.

In order to develop a cleaning agent that can replace HCFCs for a long time, a brominated hydrocarbon cleaning agent n-PB(C3H7Br) is proposed as a new cleaning agent, which can replace ODS under appropriate conditions. n-PB has a very stubborn ability to dissolve grease, structural properties similar to 1,1, 1-trichloroethane and trichloroethylene, can replace some transitional cleaning solvents such as HCFC-225 and other flammable cleaning solvents. The manufacturing cost of n-PB is slightly lower than 1,1, 1-trichloroethane, and its cleaning performance and price are relatively ideal, but the toxicity of this kind of cleaning agent has not been determined, and there may be certain safety hazards.
The characteristics of HFE (hydrofluoroether) cleaning agent as an alternative to ODS cleaning agent. The biggest advantage of HFE cleaning agents is that they have a short life in the atmosphere and have less impact on global warming. In addition, the HFE solvent has a higher boiling point, which is beneficial to reduce the volatile loss of the cleaning agent during use. However, the price of HFE is expensive, which limits the scope of use. At present, HFE is mainly used for cleaning high value-added parts or other special cleaning occasions, and is often used in combination with some solvents with stubborn cleaning ability. The study found that HFC cleaning agent has no destructive effect on the ozone layer, and has low toxicity, low surface tension and good material compatibility, its performance is close to CFC and HCFC, so it can replace ODS organic cleaning agent.
The above-mentioned various types of non-ODS cleaning agents used to temporarily replace or permanently replace ODS are gradually maturing and some are widely used, but there is still room for technological improvement and further development in the direction of environmental protection, efficiency, economy and convenience.
